Didiplis diandra is commonly called water purslane or water hedge. It is synonymous to Peplis diandra and is a member of the Lythraceae family. It is found in eastern North America. Didiplis diandra can grow 10 to 40 cm tall.  This is a demanding plant which needs high light intensity and prefers soft water. In good light Didiplis diandra will develop red shoot tips providing a beautiful contrast with other green leaves in the aquarium.  In order for it to grow well, Didiplis diandra requires carbon dioxide and a nutrient rich substrate with iron fertilization and water column fertilization. It can propagate through cuttings and is capable of self fertilization through flowers but this event is rare in aquaria.
