Water hyssop, as it is commonly called, is one of the most popular aquarium plants.   It grows easily underwater, even in brackish conditions. It is a perennial creeping herb with small succulent leaves which exudes of lemon scent when crushed. It can grow up to 60 cm in height. The flowers are blue or faint purple with 5 petals. Bacopa caroliniana likes medium to high light intensity, the colour of its leaves varying, depending on the intensity of light it is exposed to. This species can easily be propagated through cuttings. Bacopa caroliana is very suitable for lush, “forest” type aquascapes. Originating from Florida, this slow growing plant species has few conditional demands for optimal growth. With its oval shaped leaves, Bacopa caroliniana is ideal for every hobbyist and is best displayed in the aquarium in small bunches.
